‘Return to Badshahpur’

The working title of our next production is ‘Return To Badshahpur‘. Through the meandering ways the play has taken, from the by-lanes of an ex-LTTE guerrilla, to the coal mines in Dhanbad, interior UP, backlanes of Delhi (old and new) and to the routes connecting West and East Bengal, our journey with it has been one of exploration.  The reason why this journey became a possibility, is due to the Robert Bosch Arts Grant. Else, it is very unlikely that such time and space could be given for ideas to gestate, to develop and to take flight.

At one stage there were three writers in three different languages involved with the play. Hindi, Marathi and Tamil. At the moment the cast and crew we have looks something like this:  Arundhati Nag, Revathy, Anuja Ghosalkar, Sandeep Shikhar, Shrunga BV, Pratyush Singh, Virginia Rodrigues, Ashwini Kumar Chakre, Iravati Karnik, Pavan Kumar and Abhishek Majumdar. This is a mixed team of people with different skills, backgrounds, experiences and ages. Thanks also to a host of other actors from Bangalore who have been involved in the workshop of this play over the last year.

Our next stop in the process is a 3 day workshop to be held most probably in Nrityagram.

The show is scheduled to open on 2nd, 3rd and 4th of December at Rangashankara Bangalore. More posts about the design, the workshops and other such things on their way.
